LOUVRE MUSEUM BATOBUS STOP
In
1816, a large crowd came to the Louvre port to admire
the first steam operated boat, the "Elise". Today, crowds flock to
the museum, the mooring spot for the world's art. In order to expand, the Louvre moved the Finance Ministry out, which had occupied
an entire wing until the mid 1980s. As we go up towards the Opera, we see the
Japanese quarter of Paris. Shops and restaurants
from "the land of the rising sun" share the neighbourhood
with the luxurious boutiques of the Faubourg-Saint-Honoré
and the antique dealers around the Louvre. A favorite spot for Far Eastern visitors. The neighbourhood is also a haven for bankers (The Banque de France is nearby). Intellectuals, who used to
frequent the National Library here, have gone further east to the new François
Mitterrand Library, the TGB. Thanks to the Tuileries Gardens and the quays of the Seine, this stop is also a
favorite for Parisian sun worshippers.
